The Loam Wolf’s Long Term Mega Murmur Review

The Loam Wolf Reviews The Mega Murmur

The mighty Loam Wolf just spent a year testing our big travel, big swing arm Mega Murmur.

With a whole heap of big and nasty Scottish riding in the bank, they’ve published the final write-up.

If you’re considering a Starling of any kind, this one’s definitely worth a look!

The rear of the Mega Murmur had a beautifully calm feeling, which delivered a ton of confidence and control in high frequency roughness. Grip levels were great, and the Starling held a line through the gnar as well as the best of them.

Robert over at The Loam Wolf spent much of 2024 on our Mega Murmur, and he really put it through its paces.

He chose the bike as his longterm test rig – using it to review various components for the website. Why did he choose the Mega? It’s simple, it’s tough and it’ll take a load of abuse. Perfect for a time-poor, 100KG Scottish pinner!

If you know Robert, you’ll know he doesn’t hold back—so we were keen to see what they made of our 165mm, steel-framed, big-wheelbase, big-mountain bruiser.

And the verdict? You’ll have to read the full review for all the details, but let’s just say he was into it.

Simply Mega.

The Mega Murmur is everything we love about steel bikes. It’s smooth, planted, and built to last—but with more travel for those who like things fast, rough, and rowdy. And with a longer swing arm to better suit tougher terrain and better fit taller riders. No overcomplicated linkages, no gimmicks—just pure, honest performance and a great fit for taller folks.

And The Wolf’s Verdict?

Without giving too much away, The Loam Wolf had a LOAD of great things to say about how the Mega Murmur rides, how it stacks up against the competition, and why a steel enduro bike still makes sense in a sea of carbon and alloy. Rob put it to the test on his home trails and found out just what makes a Starling ride feel different.

If you’re wondering how a steel, single-pivot, 29er enduro bike can stand up to the competition, you’ll want to check out their full thoughts.
