Trade in your starling, upgrade for a great price, support a good cause

V1 Starling Cycles Murmur in green

trade in your frame, upgrade to v3, support a good cause

Starling Cycles Owners can now upgrade their older-generation frames at a kick-ass price, all whilst supporting a good cause.

Starting January 2025, owners of previous-generation frames can now trade in their old frames and get a new one at a bargain price.

You simply return your old frame to us and we’ll offer you a current-gen, V3 frame for whatever price you paid for your original one, regardless of age.

Yep, you read that right. Whatever you paid for your first frame is what you pay now, for your brand-new, upgraded V3.

We’re doing this for a few reasons.

First, it rewards our long-standing, loyal customers. It gives them a chance to upgrade and stay on a Starling at a great price.

It’s also all about sustainability, something that’s hugely important to us. It allows us to refurbish those old frames, keep them on the trails for longer and save them from being needlessly retired or scrapped. There’s plenty of life left in them, and we intend to keep them going for years to come.

Who does this apply to?

Anyone with a full suspension, Core frame that’s older than V3.

That means V1, V2, V2.5 Swoop, Twist and Murmur owners. Stainless owners are also included.

This applies to original owners, but, second hand owners are welcome to contact us and we’ll discuss options.

Let’s look at an example:

Let’s say you own a V1 Starling Swoop frame, purchased in 2016. Joe made it in his shed. You paid £1000 for it. It’s a little tired, doesn’t have an adjustable shock mount or UDH hanger, the warranty has run out and you fancy an upgrade.

You can now return your frame to us and upgrade to a brand new V3 Starling Cycles frame for just £1000, plus the cost of a shock and postage.

That’s a saving of over £1000, which is pretty amazing.

Plus, no hassle with second-hand sales, eBay or FB marketplace BS.

Why upgrade?

Real talk, those previous generation frames kick ass. They don’t need to be upgraded.

They ride beautifully and will last for years. You don’t need to change them.

But, we appreciate that some customers want the benefit of adjustable shock mounts, anti-flare headtubes, our stiffer main pivot assembly and UDH dropouts.

They also want that V3 7-year warranty. There are also minor tweaks to geometry, tubing specification and manufacturing processes.

This new offer allows customers to make that leap to V3, without costing them the full price of a brand-new frame.

It also allows you to upgrade and know your old frame won’t go to waste. No need to retire it to the shed wall or send it to the scrap heap. Let someone else enjoy it for years to come.

And support a good cause

But there’s more to this story.

When you return that old frame, you’re also helping a good cause.

More than one, in fact.

We want all of our frames to last for generations. We want to work sustainably and we want those old frames to keep shredding. It’s always better to reuse a frame than to scrap it. Too many bikes end up in landfill or gathering dust in the shed because they’re not the latest and greatest model.

Starling will refurbish the returned frames, sell them via our outlet and donate the profits to charity. This allows us to keep them in action for years to come and to offer customers a chance to own a Starling at a reduced price. We hope this will open Starling up to some customers that may not have been able to afford one at full price.

Finally, we’ll donate the profits to Ride Bristol, the group that maintains and builds the trails that we ride every week. They’re a charity and volunteer-run organisation based right here in our home city. Everybody wins, right?
